Starr Cycle history
From 1990-2000 John Zender rented from the old Lakeside Harley Davidson building in Mankato. After closing the doors there, from 2000-2004 John shared the same building Starr Cycle is in today with Sherwood Motorsports. Sherwood sold the motorcycles and ATV's, and John owned and ran the service department. In 2004 John bought out Sherwood Motorsports and renamed the business Starr Cycle- a small Harley Davidson and Japanese repair shop. He offered service and sales of pre-owned units, then in 2006 took on Yamaha, KTM, KYMCO and Genuine Scooters. In 2011 John bought the Honda Powersports line over from Luther Honda (a car dealership) in Mankato. About a year later, John took on Kawasaki. In 2013 John signed on with Victory Motorcycles, and in 2014 John also brought in Polaris' Slingshot line. In 2016, John took on CFMOTO ATV's and Side-by-Sides.
In 2017 Victory Motorcycles announced a hold on production, and Starr Cycle let the Slingshot line go. We still remain a Victory Motorcycles serving dealer, and continue to buy, trade in and sell pre-owned Victorys! In the same year, Starr Cycle joined the electric motorcycle world by becoming an UBCO dealer.
In 2018, John's son Nathan Zender took over the business. Since then, Starr Cycle has picked up the Benelli and SSR Motorsports lines, now making us a 10 brand dealership. As Starr Cycle continues to grow, we always keep John's wisdom and business teachings in mind, as well as his many unforgettable jokes and one-liners!
Today we have 13 characterful employees, 10 very unique brands & as always- a unique variety of pre-owned vehicles!
